So when are they going to FIX the color picker???? You use to be able to pick your own color from the color picker, NOW you are FORCED to pick from Preselected, LIMITED, colors. ^Totally destroyed my timelines!!!! NOT HAPPY. Please FIX

Well I was told that they DOWNGRADED the color picker to be compatible with iPad colors. Really? So you punish everyone so that some people can use it on their iPads... hum... guess I paid for software that I can NEVER upgrade to if I want to keep my wide range of colors... Here's a novel idea, put a checkbox in so the people that WANT it compatible with iPad can have it, the rest of us who want OUR own colors can have them back and upgrade the software we PAID for. I'm currently a very unhappy customer.

Hi, I have replied to your most recent email to us regarding this issue. We try to be responsive to user feedback, and based on some initial requests following the change, we did quickly extend the range of available colours in the new palette to accomodate those users. For technical reasons internal to our code, we won't be rolling back to the previous approach. However, we may be able to extend this colour palette to include further colours, if there is a particular range of missing colours that you would like to be available. Beyond that, although we would prefer all of our customers to be happy, I understand of course that not every change we make is going to please everybody. That is why we always make previous versions of our application available to users who prefer to continue using the older version. Matt

I see. So if I want to downgrade then I upgrade. A simple checkbox to let people choose to be iPad compatible, or have the full color pallet would be a far better choice. And as a programmer myself, I know that's not a big issue. What you have done with your "upgrade" is actually downgraded EVERYONE that does not use an iPad, and never will. I loved Aeon timeline until this last decision. And if its your decision to remain in a downgrade mode to accommodate iPads then I'm forced to look for another software. Please don't downgrade such a great piece of software by accommodating one product. I believe this is the worst desicion you have made since you started. I hope you reconsider and return the pallet for those who wish to have a choice instead of having others choose for them what colors are acceptable. After all who does not make black #000000 ???? or white #ffffff ???? No longer a happy customer.

While I am not too fussed about the color selections, I must strongly agree that forcing everyone onto a certain path solely to accomodate iPad users is a horrible path to go down.

>I must strongly agree that forcing everyone onto a certain path solely to accomodate iPad users is a horrible path to go down I can certainly understand that point of view, and if we were talking about wholesale changes to the application I would agree completely. While in hindsight I may have made a different design decision and looked for ways to maintain the custom colour choices, I took the view at the time that switching to a reduced colour palette was a moderately small compromise to provide better cross platform support. And while I understand that some users will disagree, I still maintain that it is a minor and worthwhile change given the refactoring has led to rendering performance improvements for large timelines across all platforms. As I said, it is easier for us to increase the range of colours available under the new system than to switch back to fully custom colours, so I am happy to receive feedback on any colours that should be added into the palette. That seems like the best short term compromise to make at this point, as I would prefer to be foc using development effort elsewhere (i.e. new features) at the moment. I will of course consider this again in the future the next time I am working on that particular area of code. Matt

Matt - Fair enough. It's tough to please everyone. I'm glad to hear we don't all have to ride on the iOS train.

Matt, I probably wouldn't have reacted as strongly as I have if most, if not all, my timelines are based on a detail color scheme. I laid that out to be able to tell at a glance which items were related to, or children of, certain categories. With that said, I apologize if I came across too strongly. I was annoyed and upset that I would no longer be able to upgrade, not without losing the color pallet. I've been a user for years. Would it be possible to invoke the X11 colors that are located: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Web_colors about 1/4 down the page. Maybe using a main color choice with subcolor choices. Such as showing a pallet that shows Pink, Green, Purple, Red, Orange, Cyan, White, Yellow, Brown, Blue, and Gray. Then when you click on each of those main colors you get a popup with the breakdowns as listed on the link above. Just a though.

I have to agree. Terrible choice, and if it's not possible to roll back, then at least you should add a much large selection of colors. X11 would be plenty, I should think. I'm strongly in favor of expanding it. I personally need about 20 colors right now, and will continue to need more at the rate of a few per year.
