Hi David, Yes, your understanding is correct. You can still have external links to images, and will be able to click on the links to open and view the images, but they would not be displayed inline in the timeline view when you expand the event. I agree that for 1000 events, having that many images embedded into the file would become a significant issue. We made the change to support sharing timelines with iOS users, because linking to external local files doesn't really work in an iOS context, so we thought it would be better to bring the images into the file. But I agree that in your case that is not particularly helpful. I hadn't anticipated the use case of such a large number of events, all with attached images. Let me look into it, as it may be possible for me to reinstate the inlining of web-linked images where no other image is set for an event relatively easily. Out of interest, when you link to your images currently, are they referenced via a web URL (i.e. http://...), or are they referenced as a local file? Matt
I just saw that my example link was swallowed and turned into a link... What I meant was, are they references as http or https etc. or are they a local file path to a location on your computer?
Hi David, I have just released version 2.3.8 which gives the user a choice of behaviour. When first upgrading, a prompt will ask whether you want to convert local links into embedded images or not. If you choose no, or if you have remote image links, then the first linked image will be used for the expanded event display if there is not a local image set for that event. That should provide an adequate solution for those like you who have 1000s of events, where the file size will grow too large.
Matthew, Congratulations on the new release of AT. Uncountable man/woman-hours I'm sure! And many thanks for your response and the quick tweak of the code! Excellent. Regarding image links: My images are URLs to my storage space on Amazon Cloud (AWS); I can distribute my timeline to anyone anywhere and it will be able to access the images. I get a vast amount of space on AWS for almost nothing.
