Hi CreativeMD, There shouldn't have been anything in the most recent update that should have slowed down the performance of the timeline. What operating system are you using, and how many events does your timeline have? When you updated the first time, the program asked if you wanted to change your image links to attachments, which is why every picture was put in the timeline file. If you haven't made too many changes from this file, you can open the older file again and not choose this option and they will stay as links. Or you can go through and change them back manually, however I assume this might be too cumbersome if your timeline is very large. Jess
Yeah, now I remember, unfortunately I hit the wrong option and it's already too late to go back, but I can live with that. I recorded a short video about the issue: https://i.imgur.com/1uEL7Ai.mp4
Hi CreativeMD, Yes that does look abnormally slow. Are you able to send through your timeline to [email protected] ? This will help us diagnose the problem. If you create a new timeline, are you also seeing the same issue, or is it just the one file? You said you only saw this problem with the latest update? You can still download the older version from our website here: https://www.aeontimeline.com/download/ (version 2.3.9, the link is in the bottom right hand side). So in the meantime if this is causing you a lot of issues, you can use this version while we try to work out why it is slowing down so much. Jess
Sorry, but unfortunately I can't send the timeline. I know it would really helpful, but the information is private. I can however provide some information about it. The timeline contains about 500 to 1200 events, ~40% of them have multiple images. Every event has a description, most commonly a few lines, but some of them also have around 400-1000 words. There are 3 categories in total. The timeline itself has a time span of about 2,5 years. There are quite a few dependencies between projects. Maybe the provided information helps to figure out the problem. I downloaded version 2.3.9 and everything works fine. Thanks for the help!
Unfortunately this issue still persists in 2.3.16, but now the freeze comes in a little later. After adding a new event it works fine for like 2-3 seconds until it freezes.
Is this some kind of autosave feature? If yes is there a way to disable that?
Hi, Sorry to hear you still have this problem, what is the file size of your timeline? Jess
As I said earlier about 150 MB. It feels like the timeline saves after something has changed.
Hi, Yes there is an autosave feature in Aeon Timeline, however it is also available in 2.3.9 which you said worked for you, so I'm not sure it would be the problem. There is currently no way to turn it off, however we will look into this and consider adding an option to turn it off so that people can disable it if they have large file sizes. Jess
I'm pretty sure v2.3.9 does not auto save. Otherwise it would lag as well and the file would change too, which is not the case. If i don't save the timeline manually the file won't be modified at all. An option to turn it off would be extremely helpful, looking forward to it.
Hi, The autosave function doesn't save the actual file you are using, instead saves a backup file to another location, which is deleted when you close or save your original file. It is there for the cases where your computer crashes etc. and you might lose your data. So you wouldn't see your actual file change, as this is not the one being saved. Jess
Oh right, can't see a temporary file either. An option to turn off auto saving would be great.
