Showing character birth/death on timeline

Hi - should the character birth/death dates come through automatically on the timeline? I've set these up but can't figure out how to show them automatically...

View the timeline by Character, each bar should give age progression along the bar that has its specific name. Other places to see the calculations based on their birth\death dates, are on the events themselves, after you've expanded its view. But only if a Character has been added to the event of course. Participant\Observer. The name will be followed by their age at the time of the event. As far as I know to have the birth\death dates appear on the timeline as an event does, you may have to create those events. Example. Create an event at Nov 26 1978 (time is optional) name it Birth of Character Beta, then add the Character Beta to Participant. If you'd given the same date in the Character Birth\Death, the event show Participant: Beta 0 months old. then if you create an event called Death of Character Beta, and gave it the date Nov 26 2020 and matched that date in the Character Birth\Death, and added Character Character Beta to Participants of this new event, it would give the name, and it's calculated age. Of course, if your story or chronolgical includes parents, you can add Mom to participant, and dad as Observer, and their age calculations will be given as well.

But the above assumes separate events for birth and death. You can create a single event that visually shows a life line of sorts that expands for the span of their life. By giving the Lifespan event a start and end date, but I don't think adding the character to the event via participant, currently gives accurate date calculation for birth and death. Also make sure allow multiple events in the appropriate settings for roles etc

Another way track character timeline is to create a CharacterNameHere Life Span Event, make that a Parent event. then add child events for their Birth and Death. Then create more child events specific to that character. But that could be a little overkill and may effect how Arc display is populated.

Long-time Aeon user here, glad to see Aeon 2! I would like to see character/event creation streamlined in the next release. If you're doing the work of creating a character (entity) and you have the ability to enter birth/date info on that entity/character then a simple check box to add an a birth/death event would be a huge time-saver. With hundreds of characters to add to my timeline, creating an entity then having to create an event, then go back and link the entity to the event is just plain ridiculous! Please, please, please! get character/entity creation streamlined in the next release. Additionally, assigning custom color/labels to an event should be the same with entities. If I label a character event a certain color with "arc name - tertiary character" on the color label, then when I create a character entity I should have access to the same color palettes and labels, not just a color picker w/hex numbers. Redundant work sucks! Again this needs to be streamlined for creating entities and managing their events. I really like most of the Aeon 2 features, bu t it seems like some common sense things have slipped through the cracks? Maybe I'm missing something? Let me know if you guys have found a good workaround in the meantime, thx!

I agree with you - it should be a simple thing to put in b. and d. dates. I figured it wasn't working right since it was so weird to go back and forth, now I see it's the plan. I have many many many people to put into my historical timeline and this is not good news. Since they just put out a new version, it seems it might be sometime before they make another one.

Hi guys, Thanks for the suggestions. We have had requests for both these things before (automatic birth/death events and access to colour palettes for entities). It is something we will be considering adding to a future update. Thanks, Jess

You can create a Lifetime Event and link the bd and dd of the character to that event. If you change the offset of dd to 0 seconds from end everything works fine for my needs. Now you can adjust the event and it updates your characters lifetime. This thread is now over a year old, but if someone digs for this information it´s one of the first to pop up. So here are my 5 cents.
