Getting your kids to also eat healthy.

My wife and I don’t exercise as much as we would like, and that’s one of our 2019 goals. We do however eat very healthy, and I obsessively count calories. Unfortunately this healthy life style hasn’t quite gotten acceptance from our two kids. My 15 year old daughter tells me my healthy oatmeal raisin muffins taste like sawdust (whatever that tastes likes). On the contrary, because we don’t bring sugary cereals and processed things into the the house, they seem to binge on unhealthy snacks and food every chance they get, outside the house. So sadly our good intentions seem to be back firing on us.

How about trying some healthy options that they would like? Maybe smoothies or mixed fruits. The kids should feel like they are part of the planning process for this lifestyle change instead of feeling forced, that way they won’t be so inclined to rebel against it. Try coming up with weekly meals together as a family and incorporate their choices as long as they are healthier options. For example, if they want chips- get them the baked ones for now. Trust me, it will take time to reach them, but they will understand the change if they feel more included. Cook meals together, have them help make a dish here and there and the more they get involved the likely they are to change their eating habits all together. Plus, once they start to see the changes in their body they won’t want to go back to eating unhealthy. Lastly, if you have Netflix, try watching “WHAT THE HEALTH” together. It will definitely wake them up.
