Older female workers

At 57 I've almost given up trying to find work, due to its being a really depressing exercise. I have totally up-to-date admin skills, but worked from home on production of a local newspaper for many years while raising kids (we reproduced later in life) - so was out of full time workforce, therefore no recent workplace experience to demonstrate. With at least 10 years until retirement, things look a bit grim for us income-wise. Partner (60) only works part-time. I don't want Newstart because that game (dealing with Centrelink) ain't worth the candle (Newstart pittance). Anyhow, that's my story in a nutshell. I won't really give up looking for work, but, yeah, the lack of success is bad for the psyche. I have a deep suspicion my age (and looking it) is an unacknowledged drawback at interviews.
