I assumed that I would not benefit from a doula or midwife. We prefer a medically assisted, hospital birth. The terms "natural birth," "water birth," and "hand-holding" are frequently used when discussing midwives or doulas. The decreased c-section rate with midwives and doulas may cause me to reconsider our decision after additional investigation. Please provide your opinion if you can. When should you begin communicating with one, too? Is it too late if I am almost 14 weeks pregnant?

After our initial meeting, I chose a midwife. The individual attention was pleasant. I immediately advised [the midwife](https://www.hamiltonmidwives.ca/) that if she had an issue with prescription medications like epidurals, I should consult a doctor. She said there wasn't a problem. Without using potent meds, I am certain that I cannot withstand any form of discomfort.
