After "Dead Prey"

After your dog has been satisfied with holding the sleeve in the "dead prey" position or cradling position, many people aren't sure what to do. With young dogs, I like the dog to run with the sleeve, and then call them back to play with them. If your dog is low drive, let them hold dead prey again, and then kick the sleeve to build the prey drive back up. If your dog is very high drive, and you want to incorporate obedience, tell the dog to sit and then direct the helper to "Get the sleeve." This is a good way to start capping your dog's drive. If you want to build civil, kick the sleeve one way, and then have the helper put the dog in drive without the sleeve in another direction. The helper should ignite the "prey drive". If you want extreme obedience, have the dog out the sleeve and then heel away from it, but don't always just out the sleeve or a dog may anticipate you and start spitting it out before the command.
