I tried to buy it as well from my iPad 3. I'm disappointed that it's not compatible.

You will see on the iTunes page: Compatibility: Requires iOS 9.0 or later. *Phone:* - iPhone 5s, - iPhone 6 - iPhone 6 Plus - iPhone 6s - iPhone 6s Plus - iPhone SE *Tablet*: - iPad Air - iPad Air Wi-Fi + Cellular - iPad mini 2 - iPad mini 2 Wi-Fi + Cellular - iPad Air 2 - iPad Air 2 Wi-Fi + Cellular - iPad mini 3 - iPad mini 3 Wi-Fi + Cellular - iPad mini 4 - iPad mini 4 Wi-Fi + Cellular - 12.9-inch iPad Pro - 12.9-inch iPad Pro Wi-Fi + Cellular - 9.7-inch iPad Pro - 9.7-inch iPad Pro Wi-Fi + Cellular *iPod* - iPod touch (6th generation) iPad 3rd Generation is now nearly 4 years old. I can only assume limiting to newer devices ensures a very smooth experience and it was compiled for use only with Arm7s and not Arm7, which gives a very big perf boost to the supported devices.

Just confirmed on some Wiki-research: iPad 3rd Gen uses an A5X -> https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Apple_A5X (which is Arm v7 and will not get iOS 10 upgrade) iPad 4th Gen uses A6X -> https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Apple_A6X (which uses Armv7-A (Armv7s) and will get the iOS 10 upgrade).

Note that iPad 4 is not in the supported list, either, although if your reasoning is correct, perhaps it could be. I hope so - given that I own one!

Ah, I am sorry, It was Armv8 that introduced this in the A7 chip... that is why iPhone 5 and iPad 4th generation were not in there. My fault. This is getting pretty low level.
