From a press release: Intrinsic brewing, a native Texan and family-owned business, is committed to opening a craft brewpub in the historic square of downtown Garland. Located at 509 W State Street, Intrinsic will open its doors in October 2015. Both born and raised in Garland, founders Cary and Molly Hodson are excited to bring a brewpub to their hometown. Featuring a heavy rotation of their housemade beers and sodas, as well as a wall of guest taps and wine, Intrinsic will provide something for everyone from the beginner to veteran craft beer enthusiast. On top of this quality craft beer, they will also be serving up craft barbecue. Joining the Intrinsic team is Pitmaster Tex; known in the Dallas beer circles for his smoked meats and beloved Junior’s Lone Star Sauce. Tex has been cooking ‘Q’ his for as long as he can remember, and sees barbecue as a way to bring friends and family together to create memories, simply by firing up the smoker. He prides himself in the time and thought he puts into his food and sauce, which parallels the art of brewing craft beer. After several years of planning, and many years as a home brewer, Cary began his dream by completing an immersion-brewing course in Denver, Colorado, where he collaborated with Echo Brewing Company. Since then, the Intrinsic team has volunteered at many Dallas area breweries and is now serving on the legislative committee with the Texas Craft Brewers Guild. Cary, who is a craftsman by trade, puts the same care and creativity into his beer. In August, Intrinsic took away several awards at the popular Labor of Love competition hosted by Deep Ellum Brewery: Best in Show, Fan Favorite, First Place Sour, and First Place Spicy. With this special Best in Show distinction Intrinsic has been given the honor of having their Basil Buzz, a Hefeweizen brewed with honey and basil, brewed and distributed around Dallas in July 2015. This will give Intrinsic enthusiasts a chance to experience one of their unique styles before their downtown Garland opening later that Fall. Capitalizing on the momentum from Intrinsic’s Labor of Love win, the team began expanding their fan family in November with the announcement of their crowdfund campaign on Crowdbrewed.com. With the help of several tasting events and allowing the beer to speak for itself, they were successful in reaching their $30,000 goal in seed money needed to take their dream to the next level. With guidance from the Garland Chamber of Commerce in partnership with the Small Business Development Council, Intrinsic’s founders have built the right partnerships, acquired funding, and are ready to put down some serious roots. What makes Intrinsic different? Intrinsic Smokehouse and Brewery will boast a split, yet balanced personality with equal focus on barbeque and beer. As a brewpub, Intrinsic will be the newest place to get a growler fill of your favorite local brands. Brewing and BBQ are both time honored traditions when combined, have the potential to be a truly unique destination. The founders, a teacher and furniture maker, have invested their time, energy, and finances to make this dream a reality. They believe in their beer and are eager to get it in the hands of beer lovers. This bootstrapped small business is community-built with a focus on quality and craftsmanship. Many supporters have volunteered their time, professional services, and word-of-mouth advertising. In an effort to “pay it forward”, Intrinsic’s new brewhouse design and manufacturing connections will be made available to any aspiring brewer looking to go pro on a budget.
