When you see a good move look for a better one was the advice given to me when trying to write good code. There is a better title to this post.

Love it, though I'm a sucker for chess metaphors. Though I do think it is part of the problem some new programmers have... they just want to find the perfect move. "There is no right way; only wrong ways" is a, perhaps poor, way of telling this person that they should just try something, anything, even if it's completely wrong. Or as Ms. Frizzle from The Magic School Bus says: "The best way to know is to do!"

Also "it is better to solve the right problem the wrong way than the wrong problem the right way" - The Art of Unix programming
