First of all i love you! i'm a poli sci major starting at uni in the fall and i strive to be as intelligent and informed as you are! great gal! you go! Second, i have really poor emotional intelligence. Growing up, my mother was emotionally void (not a judgement on her, that's just her personality) So I had to basically work out my emotions on my own leaving me with severe mental illnesses that I kept to myself for a long time. So i have a pretty bad relationship with my thoughts/emotions and don't know how to talk myself out of negative and self destructive thinking. How do you recommend I deal with this?

Hi, I experienced similar things growing up which left me confused by my own emotions. I found that talking to people, especially friends who you trust will help figure out what is going on in there. Saying your thoughts out loud, as random and incoherent as they may be, helps a lot in figuring out what you're feeling, even if you can't put a name to the emotion.. hope it helps :)
