Support for auto levelling

Sat, 07 Jan 2017 16:12:41 GMT

I've used FlatCam successfully to mill my first double sided PCB. Only feature that it lacks in my opinion is probing copper board for auto levelling. I had to use a separate software to convert gcode generated from FlatCam to incorporate auto levelling. Although it worked properly, the work flow is bit cumbersome as two tools are not integrated. Are there any plans to incorporate this functionality in the near future?

Autoleveller is free for the back version which works pretty well. I was thinking that FlatCam could use auto leveling too. It is called "FlatCam" after all. ;) The code is available but it is in Java. FlatCam is python, I am not sure how hard it would be to interface.

Someday I will have the time for coding new features.... in the meantime, anyone can contribute code! JP

Consider using Chilipeppr for controlling your router. It has a decent autoleveling function. http://chilipeppr.com/ (IMHO, the mean thing to integrate this feature into FlatCam is that one would have to add a whole grbl machine control interface section and then what you finally get is a file with code that completely depends on you actual piece of PCB and how it is fixed onto your mill and you still will have to transfer it to another program that will do the actual milling job).

IMHO CNC control is nothing FlatCAM should do. If you integrate GRBL, what's with TinyG and others?
