I believe that school uniforms are unjust and unwarranted. These uniforms take personal rights away from the students. It is unjust to expect the students to put aside their freedom of self-expression and force them to wear uniforms. As high school students, we tend to want to express who we are more visibly than other generations of people. School uniforms take that opportunity away from the students and leave them feeling average. To protest this rule, I would begin by wearing things like hoodies to school. I would tell many other people about the protest to help support the cause. As time passed, we would start wearing casual clothing altogether instead of uniform to further the protest. For participating in the protest, students could be sent out of class by teachers, which then would result in demerits and detentions. These repeated detentions could lead to suspension or expulsion from Rockford Christian. By continuously taking part in this protest, I hope that the Rockford Christian administration would have to change the dress code. While I hope that this protes t would work, I do not think that anything good would come of it. Potentially getting expelled is not worth having no uniforms at school. Some causes are worth the consequences of breaking laws, like Antigone going against her uncle’s law to bury her brother and honor the gods or like Malala Yousafzai fighting for the right to learn. When done for the right reasons and in the right way, civil disobedience can change unjust laws, but when done for reasons that are not necessary, civil disobedience is reckless and a waste of time.
