The introductory email and follow up emails to coaches are an very important piece of the recruiting puzzle. What should you send, how often, etc. Let's talk.

After reading the blog post about the recruiting plan, and seeing your post about contacting coaches, How would I go about contacting the coach again? As a follow up to my email... Should I call the coach or send another email? What do you suggest?

Hi Alex. The short answer is that it depends on the situation. Generally, we recommend following up an email with a phone call a few days after you sent the initial email. This can accomplish a couple of goals. 1. If the coach read your email it gives you the opportunity to discuss it. 2. If the coach has not yet read the email it gives him some motivation to do so. You can then set up a time to call him back. On the other hand, if it has been awhile since you sent the initial email. For example, a few weeks or more. We would suggest you find a reason to send another email. It could be as simple as letting the coach know you are following up on the initial email and wanted to get his feedback. Finish the email with a specific time you will be calling to follow up. Does that answer your questions?

Hey Coach, I sent some emails around the middle of this past football season (I am a sophomore) and never heard back... Would it be a good idea to send an email with updated film? And then follow up with a call?

Hi Coach Keith, What do we do if we have exchanged some emails with coaches over time, but have not made a phone call.... Is it a good time do so?

And then follow up with a call? Hey Alex, we definitely recommend sending emails throughout the season with updated film and stats. Since you are only a sophomore coaches are not allowed to contact you per NCAA rules but you can contact them as much as you want. You should definitely send an updated email with your most recent highlight. In the email include a time you are planning to call the coach and if he answers he is allowed to speak with you.

> @seanwittingham > Hi Coach Keith, What do we do if we have exchanged some emails with coaches over time, but have not made a phone call… Is it a good time do so? Yes Sean! Now is a great time to make the phone call. In your next email exchange let the coach know a time you would be planning to call and be sure to give him a call when you say you are going to. You can also give the coach another call if he does not pick up the first time but you should wait some 30 minutes to an hour to do so
