I am looking for proof of birth for my Ancestor Joseph Bradley Garfield. He was born in Glover, Orleans, Vermont in 1816 and died 13 Nov. 1894 and is buried in Greenlawn Cemetery, Baldwinville, Worcester, Mass. I believe he is the son of Joseph Garfield and Dolly Varnum Abbott. He married Elisabeth Smith my ancestor first and then Mary Elizabeth Stratton. His children were Henry James Garfield, Charles B. Garfield, Harriet aka Hattie Garfield my ancestor, Dolly Angela Garfield and Emma Garfield. Would also like proof of his father Joseph Garfleld's birth.

Greetings Katherine! I have checked through my records and I cannot find anything relating to this branch of the family. I have been trying to piece some of the Vermont families together as my branch also went through Vermont on their way to New York but records are very hit and miss in the late 1700s - early 1800s it seems. What avenues have you pursued so far? I checked a few family trees on Ancestry and their information is all over the place most listing Joseph Garfield husband of Dolly Abbot as being the Joseph Garfield that married Lydia Stearns and moved to Busti, Chautauqua County, NY. From what I know of that family, there is no mention of any Dolly Abbott. There is a dead end in our tree in the seventh generation: if you go to that link and scroll down to 07:20A you will find a Joseph Garfield son of Joseph Garfield and Susannah Weeks who was born Aug 28, 1779. One of his brothers, Ebenezer, we have information for, his wife having died in Glover, VT. There could be some mix up i n information there that might tie the two family branches together. A lot more research is needed and corrections to be made. I have been giving most of my time recently to just checking the information we have been given by others and trying to find the records to confirm it all. A daunting task to say the least. One note however, The name of your Joseph's son, Charles B jumped out at me as having been seen before in my records and I checked my Civil War collection and have service records for a Charles B, aged 22 born 1843 in Rutland, MA. He served in the 2nd Cavalry and 53rd Infantry. I will keep my eye open and if you want to give me a more detailed list of sources you've checked and your tree information I will see if I can work out where it might connect as I go along and if it relates to any of the bits and pieces of lines I haven't yet connected.
