Homeschooling Children unrelated to you

Hi There! I would like to start a homeschool out of my home with a focus on outdoor education. I know that under the Maine homeschool law, I would be allowed to teach other people's children but I am wondering if I need to follow the guidelines set forth in the Maine daycare laws about licensing. Do I need to obtain an in-home daycare license in order to have more than 2 unrelated kids in my home at a time? Thank you!

It appears that you are talking about a school, not homeschooling (and not daycare). The chart at the bottom of this page would be helpful in seeing the differences between homeschooling and schools: https://www.homeschoolersofmaine.org/news-issues/education-liberty/. Fire, health and safety regulations apply to programs that enroll more than two unrelated students. More here: https://www.maine.gov/doe/schools/schoolops/equivalentinstruction. Questions regarding establishing a program where other children are enrolled and paying tuition should be directed to Pamela Ford-Taylor at the DOE.
