Portfolio question

Hello, I have downloaded and read the portfolio guide. I am beginning to put together a portfolio for my six year old son in first grade. It is relatively simple to use his english and math workbook pages to show progress. I am wondering how much actual written work is necessary for the other subjects. We do a lot of read aloud and free reading time when it comes to Science and Social Studies. Is written work necessary for those subjects, and for health, library skills and fine arts? What would be an example of a piece of written work for those other subject? For instance, for art, we look at and discuss an art card of a popular painting each week. We also do crafts on occasion and the kids end up drawing or coloring in their free time. Would a written description of this be acceptable?

Thank you for your question. Be sure to use the subject cover page to write the details of what you did for these subjects. Include a reading log, books that were read, read aloud or even listened to all count. Take pictures especially if you are doing nature study. An activity log can show what you have done for physical education whether stacking wood, taking a walk, riding a bike, you name it. Keep brochures or pamphlets of places you visited, plays, concerts, museums. Please reach out with any more questions you may have.
