Brand new to not only Maine but also homeschooling. Trying to make sure I have everything figured out so I'm following all of the rules. What are the portfolios that I keep seeing mentioned?

A Portfolio is a record of your child's work for the school year. It includes an attendance record, reading log, field trip log, and two copies ofyour child's work for each subject, per quarter. You can find a copy of our portfolio review package by following this link. https://www.homeschoolersofmaine.org/events/home-portfolio-evaluations/ If you have any further questions, please contact us at anytime.

Ok, that does make sense lol So if my kids are only 3(4 in July) and 2, do I still need to file a letter of intent for them or do I just have to start that when they turn 7? Also, if I plan to go year around, starting July 10th and ending June 9th, when would I submit their portfolios?

You do not need to file a letter of intent until your child's 7th birthday. the portfolio review could be done anytime. We offer a discount for registrations that are in by June 1st, but the portfolio doesn't need to be submitted until July 1.

Sorry for the keyboarding error...Anyway, why would a preschool child need to have a portfolio submitted if you don't need to file an intent to homeschool until age 7? Is this something new?

A pre-schooler does not need to have an assessment done. I am sorry if I gave you that impression. I was simply trying to answer your questions about portfolios; You do not need to submit an assessment to the state until your child is 7 years of age.

Thank you for clarifying that. There is so much information to learn about homeschooling in the beginning, and I just wanted to be sure I understood. Great information about the portfolios. You explained it well without over-complicating it.
