How do I get that little blue checkmark on Twitter? Should my Instagram stories include horizontal video? What's the best way to send a DM? If you’ve asked yourself any of these questions this workshop is for you. The goal of this course is to help you navigate the varied digital media landscape to create a personal brand online that is trusted and engaging. Not just click-worthy. This course is taught by Kelly Moffitt, a producer at StoryCorps and creative director at MKM Communications. In the first part of the class, Kelly will work with you to determine your needs and wants out of an online presence – whether as a journalist, entrepreneur, or creative. She will also share case studies of where digital media engagement has gone right … and terribly wrong. The second part of the class will cover specific strategies for engagement on different digital media platf orms and monitoring/analytics tools. The third part of the class will go over practical tools for how to create a compelling visual presence online, developing an authentic “voice” and best practices for engaging with others online. She’s currently a producer at StoryCorps, where she travels the country recording stories from everyday Americans and edits them for broadcast on NPR’s Morning Edition. Previously, she managed the digital platforms, community engagement and produced segments for a daily talk show. In 2017, she was selected as one of three top digital journalists under the age of 30 for the prestigious MJ Bear Fellowship given by the Online News Association. In her free time, she publishes a bi-weekly newsletter that shines a light on podcasts produced between the coasts and edits non-fiction submissions to December literary magazine.
