Company Website: https://hexagram.io/ Email [email protected] with a CV and cover letter to apply. Company Description Hexagram is the creator of SAGA, a cloud-based platform that unites real-world and digital narratives, enabling users to explore physical spaces, interact with believable digital characters, and receive personalized immersive content across multiple platforms in real time. SAGA can be used to orchestrate complex fictional worlds, reward loyal audience members, or bring people together. It publishes information across platforms from SMS to game engines, connecting audiences to the information and experiences they’re looking for. SAGA is already being used on several major immersive projects and we’ve got something in the works that is literally a thousand times larger than what we’ve done before. Some logistics: We have a small office in Chinatown, NYC in a terrific building with a scary elevator. We have people in this office. We have people working remotely. We like the idea of work/life balance, but recognize that it’s not always easy to achieve. Al l of us love what we do. We don’t pay insanely well because we are in the low-margin world of doing things that are difficult and risky. If we do these things well, they become more profitable. We are patient. We remember friends. We hug appropriately. We quietly enjoy it when people think we are crazy. We’ve been doing what we’ve been doing for seven years and the phone has never rung as often or as loudly. We’re excited. Join us! Job Description What is an “Experience Designer?” Well, let’s start by defining “experience,” a term that is currently being used to describe everything from a roller coaster to a pop-up dinner in which people lightly touch your face while you’re blindfolded. For the purposes of this job, an “experience” is a series of interactions with a system that reacts to audience presence, interests, and decisions. We’ve created a particular set of tools that help people, potentially you, to create these kinds of experiences. Given that these tools are still in development, we’re looking for people who have the ability to design experiences for others as well as to be able to script the logic that makes them possible. If “script the logic” isn’t a clear verb/object combination for you, this application probably isn’t an ideal use of your time, though please peruse our other openings. Still with us? Great. So there are skills, technical ones, and we need them. But the skills aren’t the tricky part. Our engine is about the magic of little things happening very quickly. It’s about cutting away the marble carefully, rather than writing some 400-line, nested IF statement. Hard things become easy, but easy things become Gordian Knots. If any of this rings bells hung between your forebrain and your medulla, we’d love to hear more about why. Speaking of your brain, let’s make sure we’re addressing both halves. We need more than a 28,000 KSPH code jockey. A lot of people like you and millions more totally unlike you are already buying their tickets for the experience on which we so desperately potentially need your services. We need someone who can excite an audience and guide them to have fun even in spite of themselves. Who can surprise, delight, and quietly enlighten. After a full day of experiencing all the experiences, we want children lying in their beds to still be smiling because of something you built (and coded). That’s the bar on this one. So, hopefully this is all pretty clear. Hugely ambitious project very much on the world stage. Job listing for play-obsessed empath/mentat. You know by now if this is right for you or not. Responsibilities ● Design and implement quests and events in a real-world environment ● Develop systems, mechanics, and the numbers that power them ● Research diverse peoples, nations, and histories and somehow make use of those stories in ways that aren’t pedantic ● Test your creations in a simulation environment. We’re not going to say “AI” because we’re not charlatans. ● Document best practices, code stuff, and collaborate on the development of a complex toolset Baseline ● 3+ years of working as a gameplay engineer, game designer, or equivalent (e.g., ER nurse, cult leader) preferably in an interactive development studio or as part of an artistic practice if you used to live in Oakland ● Ability to understand the causality between what you tell people and how they react ● Experience with languages such as JS, Lua, or C# ● Understanding that we are hiring you because you are an artist, but that this doesn’t exclude you from having to color inside the lines at times ● Belief that happy people make better people ● If you see a problem, you consider its importance and impact before stepping in to fix things your way Bonus Points ● Experience with modern JavaScript ● Experience in scripting complex things ● MMO or open-world game experience ● 2+ years working in Unity or Unreal ● Passable Trivial Pursuit skills ● Experience with mobile game design or real-world game design Interested? Great! Please contact [email protected] with a current CV and brief-as-you-like cover letter. Thank you!
