Do not be over concerned about the complexity and contents of Chap 9. If you speak a slavic language, you would probably more easily understand this chapter. Basically, it is saying that English has more word order syntax rather than morphological complexity.
Focus your energy of the initial chapters that you read, and the example exam. Next week (by Monday latest), I will let you know what will be in the exam as regard question type. I'll base it on the chapters we have read to date - in relation to the example exam.
