Racing in the high hormone phase

So my first race (and a key one) is going to be at the worst possible time in my cycle. I've read Stacy Sims book and listened to the podcast with her, but I'm still unsure about what I can do this week and to prep for nutrition/hydration for my Sunday race. Any girls have some advice? I know more carbs and more salt during the race, but unsure about timing, amounts, supplements etc... It's an OLY tri.

Hey Amy! I looooove this question; thank you for bringing it up! I recently had one of my athletes go through this with the Boston marathon and she was terrified of the timing, but here's the thing: OUR MINDS ARE MORE POWERFUL THAN WE THINK. I truly believe that you can pull a "mind over matter" and still race to your potential despite the timing in your cycle. In fact, I recently did my SUP race in a very high hormone phase and I was ok - as soon as I got in the right state of mind, I was focused and feeling good and strong. It ended up being my fastest paddle to date (well, the downstream current certainly helped my speed too). Now, that said there are some things you can do and in fact because this is such an important topic for all the ladies out there I'm going to compile my notes into a formal post on LPC so keep an eye out for that. I'll have it up this week! LMK if you have further questions after reading the post.

Your race sounds like it's coming up soon (this weekend?) so too late to start the supplements I'd suggest, but honestly just believe in yourself, don't worry and I'm sure you'll be fine. I posted an article on the main feed on this topic :)

I've been hanging out on the Facebook feed and just opened this up. My race was ok. I made sure to get enough salt and didn't overhydrate on the bike. My swim and bike were great, but half way through the run I hit a wall. Like my body was just finished. The next day I came down with a cold. So unsure if it was hormones or that I was just getting sick.
