California Car Cover Company. I have used a fine cover from them for years. They make custom covers for your model in several materials. Call them and ask which material they recommend for your application. That's a good way to go.
Any cover used outdoors will eventually damage your finish. Dust and fine grit get underneath and small movement from wind will put minute scratches in the finish. The best choice if you have the space is a free-standing canopy to park under. If you have no choice, I guess you have to do what you have to do.
A free-standing canopy over the car will not prevent dust fro getting in under the cover, whether that dust comes through the cover, under it, or it was there before the cover was put on. The cover will help to protect the car from direct contact with falling stuff of all sorts, including cats and rodents, and people's hands. I sometimes see footprints of all sorts of critters on my car cover, with the car under a car port with three sides closed. Not having a sealed and climate controlled garage, one has to do the best one can, in the circumstances one finds oneself, to protect the car.
Alex, I meant canopy INSTEAD of cover.
MBCA used to get discounts through a company that did car covers (as well as patio furniture covers, which I purchased!). But, the Benefits section now seems much slimmer than it did 5 years ago. There used to be discounts at all sorts of retailers and now we're down to very few. Is this a reflection of our declining membership numbers? Less bargaining power to get discounts? https://www.mbca.org/member-benefits
A canopy instead of car cover will do what a car port does, which is prevent rain and snow from landing on the car. Unfortunately, it does not prevent dust from landing on the car, which is why I use a car cover under the car port (three sides closed.) But it is true that the cover moves slightly when the wind blows hard and the little dust that's on the car under the cover does get agitated by the inside of the cover, which creates slight swirl marks - they're very slight, but visible when one looks carefully. This, and the trouble of putting on the cover and removing it, is why I am no longer such a big fan of the cover, even though I still use it because I have not found a better solution so far. A clean garage with a tight-fitting door is the right solution.
Maybe do 2 covers. Do an indoor cover to protect the paint and then do an outdoor cover to protect from the elements. I do 2 covers for my MB and it's in a garage. I do an MB cover to protect the paint and then I do another cover to keep the dust out and it works great. My car is an MBCA concours class winner so I guess the judges like my paint which is in great shape. As a side to rwmastel, I'm not a fan of Hagerty, they way undervalue the Bruno Sacco designed MB's.
