I need instructional help to install a gear shift indicator cable in a 1970 280se. This is a column shifter. Thanks in advance. Garth.

The cable is part of the indicator. You need to replace the whole unit.

Tom .I am aware that it is part of the indicator. What i needed to know was how to insert the indicator and cable from the bezel to where it is attached to the shifter near the steering column.I am wondering if i have to remove the dash to do this. Any further information would be helpful. Thanks Garth.

his does go in from underneath, but that's as far as I can get you. Nothing under there is easy.

I don't feel like plowing through ten pages of information for someone else's problem, but some ideas may be available here: http://www.benzworld.org/forums/gtsearch.php?q=gear%20shit%20indicator

Thanks for the web site referrals Edward. The benzworld site gave enough information to get the job done.

Good work. Thanks for reporting back and closing the loop. Benzworld and Peachparts are good resources, much as this website used to be before it was abandoned by MBCA.
