Well actually I like the cleaner look of the front cover. I had no issues with the font and I thought the lay out of the pictures and articles was good. Gives the magazine a more modern look.
I noticed that the previous editor is gone. The new editor is the previous Executive Director. The page count is down to 96 vs. 112. The paper is different. The photos, particularly the R129 article, are very dark. The fonts ARE too small - maybe to compress the page count. I am going out on on a limb here - but I feel this is an effort to reduce the cost of the magazine (an issue I kept asking of the new President when he was leading quarterly zoom calls in his previous role as Eastern Regional Director). Never really got an answer.
Vince, I agree with you. I did notice the page count has been down for a while. I hope they at least would make the font size bigger. A lot of the content looks like an advertisement at first glance because of the size in the MBCA Scene section.
I agree with Robert Filbey. Maybe it's just me but I think everyone else is being a little harsh. I don't have a problem with the March/April issue. I found it to be a nice mix of reporting on new MB models, MB racing, member's cars and upcoming events. I think this is what "The Star" should be. It's a great ambassador for MBCA.
Wasn't there a magazine from Mercedes Benz or Mercedes Classic or someone that had this same look & feel as the new Star? All my old magazines are still in a box in the basement since I moved years ago! I had no problem with the previous editor. Why did he leave after such a short time? Was he asked to go, or wanted to go?
There's "Mercedes-Benz Classic" that's produced by MB itself and then there's "Mercedes Classic" that's the sister publication to" Mercedes Enthusiast" both of which are produced in the U.K. I subscribe to all of them and I enjoy all of them along with "The Star." I have no idea what happened with Jeff.
I know what happened, he was let go after 1 year, so our original publisher is now both publisher and editor, Jeff was following in the huge footsteps of Gary Anderson, our award winning editor as well as our award winning The Star, Jeff was keeping the same format, content, and pictures of folks who authored the articles, as well as pictures of our Officers for MBCA, Gary Anderson hand picked Jeff, to succeed him because he retired, and Jeff IMHO is a heck of a great editor, or was for The Star. This new look we all have, for our new The Star, only time will tell if it wins awards like our old The Star.. I hope this helps answer your questions.
I was pretty surprised that Gary's hand picked successor was let go. I think Jeff should've stayed as a tribute to Gary who sadly passed away last year. I guess I don't understand what the problem with Jeff was. I don't have a problem with Mike but I thought Jeff was doing a good job.
Do you have links to your other MB publications, I want to look into those or can you give more details on them for us all, I did not know about those and would like to know more about them, Thanks!
I actually don't remember the web addresses off the top of my head. I think you can find them if you Google them. MB Classic I think can be found through the international MB website at www.mercedes-benz.com. I think maybe Mercedes Enthusiast is www. mercedesenthusiast.com. Classic Mercedes is the sister publication to Mercedes Enthusiast and I think you can order it through that website. Hope this helps.
Try www.mercedesenthusiast.co.uk Sundial magazines publishes Mercedes Enthusiast, Mercedes Classic, and the SL Guide in the UK. Steering wheels are on the wrong side 'cuz they drive on the wrong side....
Thanks for the web address refresher. I only go to the website to renew which is every couple of years so that web address isn't one that I typically remember on a regular basis. MB Classic is published by MB itself. They typically send me a renewal notice so I never seem to remember that web address either. All are fine publications for MB enthusiasts in addition to :The Star".
Magazines go through cycles, as we all do. The current Star is a nice magazine. The past is gone. Lets hope the magazine continues to evolve in the direction we want. It would be in all our interest if those with suggestions write to the editor.
