How to invite members to a private forum via email?

Hi, I'm part of a team that's starting a new members-only community within my industry. We're hoping to have a private forum that our members will have exclusive access to once their accounts with us are approved. However, it seems like the only way to invite members to the forum is via their MUUT username, which means that after accepting someone's request for membership to our community, we'd also have to ask them to take the additional step of signing up for a MUUT account AND letting us know their username before we can invite them to the forum. That just seems like so many steps! Is there a way to invite people to join our forum via their email address? Thanks!

So, let me see if I have this correct. 1. You've got a private members-only login for your website. 2. You've also set up a Muut community using the Private Community feature 3. You want users to find their way to your Muut community after they've signed up for your website. Am I correct in that assessment? Making sure I'm clear on that would help me figure out the best path for you. Though, it does seem — at first glance — that [Federated ID](https://learn.muut.com/federated-id/manual-setup) might be the option for you.

Hi, Monika! Thanks for getting back to me. I think you've got it mostly right, but let me try to clarify how I'd like the sign-up process to go for our members and staff. 1. Members apply for membership, and are approved by our staff, at which point we'd like their access to the forum to be as immediate as possible. 2. Our staff sends a "welcome" email to the new member, and has granted them access to the forum. (Here is where I'm hitting my snare. It would be lovely to have our staff simply log in to Muut and invite the new member to have access to the forum with their email address. Since this doesn't appear to be a feature, I think the only way around this would be to have the staff set up a Muut account on the members' behalves, and forward along their Muut login information in their welcome email.) 3. I'd prefer for no one to be able to reach this forum except for our members, but the private forum feature is more than we can afford as a non-profit, so for now, the forum is public, but the page on our website where the forum is embedded is password protected. Bas ically, I just want to be able to invite people to join the forum via their email address rather than a Muut username, since our members won't have Muut usernames, and waiting for them to set one up on their own time will definitely result in loss of interest. I'm trying to make the approval process seamless for them, rather than asking them to sign up for a Muut account before they can jump in. The solution may be that we'll need to set up an account on their behalf. I just read about Federated ID, though, and this seems like a good solution! We're just trying to keep our costs down as much as possible, at least in our first year.

Federated ID with Secure Embedding — secure embedding makes the muut.com version of your forum disappear — seems like your best bet. Keep in mind that we do offer non-profit discounts. You can send us an email for more info `info [at] muut.com`
