General compost vs. Amended compost

This year will embark my inaugural season for a 40'×50' no till backyard plot and I am a fairly inexperienced grower. Big dreams though to be full-time market gardener someday. I have found a few regional suppliers of bulk compost. One produces a general yard waste type compost, while the other two have amended composts. My question is, would the extra cost (2x-3x more) be worth it for the amended compost? Or can I save some cash and go with the general compost and make my own amendments?

I would say to get the general compost and amend yourself. Maybe get a test done of the general stuff and find out what it needs to grow whichever crops you want to do first in the spring, like a bonemeal rock phosphate for beets, and then nitrogen for tomatoes. I'm also inexperienced and starting on a 10x10 community plot and a 4x8 plot in a different spot. Also want to make growing my livelihood! Just need the land and some initial funds! Hopefilly ill figure it out soon! Good luck to you brotha! I'm stoked for you're having a 40x50 garden! You will be able to pump some great food outta that!
