ClearMove Group undertakes research and development projects in digital mapping for a major European automotive safety sensors and equipment manufacturer for connected and autonomous vehicles. We are interested in developing a live map using historical taxi and bus datasets to analyse traffic behaviours and patterns in a high density urban environment. The purpose is to further our understanding of urban traffic and to discover new methods to improve traffic safety for connected and autonomous vehicles. This major European automotive equipment manufacturer can provide funding and ClearMove can develop the live map tool for this endeavour. We wish to explore collaboration with research based or public organisations to add other research topics of interest and to make this a more productive and meaningful project. Plausible spin-off benefits of a Live Map can be that commuters can crowd-order a bus to pick up at their nearest bus-stop and drop them off in a general destination area. Current routable maps support cars and trucks but buses are a separate class of large vehic les that can only travel on specific road segments. Bus drivers lack an application with a digital map that can dynamically route (non-fixed routes) them safely on roads that allow buses. In building a routable live map for traffic studies, this same map can be used to develop applications for both bus drivers and commuters to crowd-order a bus that can transport them from their nearest bus-stops to a bus-stop in their general destination area. Live map is also a tool that can help transport operators plan and supply buses in an efficient and timely manner.
