Hi, Ive been lurking around the site a little over the last couple of months while I've been involved with a few other things but the season is now fully coming around in NZ so i'm now switching onto football fully so though it was a good time to introduce myself in here. I'm the coach of a University Team in NZ, switching over from playing a couple of years ago. I'm working through the coach edu pathway now in both football and futsal. Im also the coach of the local regional side for football. Very interested in player led learning and especially how young (18-21) year olds cope/adapt to experiencing this type of coaching when they normally come from very command based/regulated training environments at their home regions. It has been my experience that the futsal players adapt to this much quicker than the pure footballers do so that could say volumes about the way futsal players think and their adaptability to differing environments. It could also however jus t be that most futsal players have never had a great deal of formal coaching in NZ so there is less fixed expectations to undo. Look forward to some good discussions as the year goes on, Cheers, Darren

> @Darren H > introduce myself Darren, great to have you on board. I'm sure Jimmy Vaughan will have plenty to say on the creativity/autonomy of futsal players versus those who have perhaps been in a more traditional environment . Something Jimmy and I discuss a lot is the impact on the education system on our players. Many young athletes spend their days in traditional schooling systems which don't always lead to autonomy, so their are huge challenges in getting players to switch from a command culture to a free thinking, player led or self organising culture. Recommend Mark Upton's work on this too. Look forward to your contribution to the Innovation Space & great to have another Kiwi coach in the community. D.

Darren! Great to hear from you, I hope the Uni boys are keeping you busy. Its a fascinating observation regarding adaptability and Futsal players, its probably multi-layered in that futsal attracts a certain type of player/personality and also may also be played in a more autonomy-supportive, less coach driven environment as well? The trick will be helping those players approach football like futsal and or create a football environment more reminiscent of futsal? perhaps? what do you think?
