The public library at which I work has hosted the local Repair Cafe several times in the past. We were considering creating a more formal partnership with them so that the events would be regular and ongoing ... until our City's Risk Management Department became very demanding about the paperwork we needed to provide for any of our presenters (proof of recent personal police background/criminal record checks, signed service agreement, and proof of liability insurance). It is difficult enough to ask for liability insurance from local performers and experts in their field - we simply haven't figured out how to get our heads around how we can possibly manage to work something out with the Repair Cafe with its many volunteers, let alone how to appease the Risk Management Department regarding risks involved with any of the work done at the cafe by the volunteers. Has anyone else out there overcome a similar obstacle? Thanks in advance for any suggestions!
