BRAVO! You had me cheering, at several points along the way. I don't want to see anyone become a martyr to our profession. And as dedicated as we are to those we serve, I've never worked in a public library where there weren't patrons with terrible boundaries. Terrible boundaries could have permanent consequences for your family, right now. Take care, colleagues!

Thank you for expressing the feelings of many of us. My library is working towards opening by next month and I am somewhat nervous, as our library has become the homeless shelter of choice. We cannot enforce that all patrons wear masks - only recommend. So while we will be wearing our masks, it does not protect us from transmission of the virus by others non-mask patrons. Seating arrangements will be limited and I expect complaints coming in when our patrons find that there is no place to sit or others who have been in the library for a long time, are asked to leave to allow others to come in. We will see.
