I was just reading the Big Short by Michael Lewis. In it there is an anecdote about a small hedge fund manager who had been successful with his investments for a number of years, had developed a strong track record and a strong following. This manager researched and discovered the concept of Credit Default Swaps on Mortgage Backed Securities. Long story short, this manager meticulously researched his trade and investment thesis and placed a major bet on the collapse of the housing market well before the collapse actually happened. While waiting for his investment thesis to play out, this manager was berated by his investors who did not understand or agree with his investment decision. This actually drove him to seriously question his research and understanding of the situation, not to mention making him seriously depressed. In the end his investment thesis came true and he made incredible returns for all of his investors.
I could not help but be reminded of Mark Gomes and some of the PTT subscribers here who are inclined to question, second-guess, criticize, etc. some of the picks made by Mark.
It is stated clearly in the Methodology that Mark is searching for stocks that most people dislike or have a hidden value that is hard to understand. If the story was always obvious, easy to understand, and guaranteed to play our according to plan, there would be no opportunity! It is stated clearly that these stocks will most likely not have a smooth upward path to a triple. It is clearly stated that Mark does not expect to be correct 100% of the time. It is clearly stated that it often takes a long-term investment horizon for the value in these stocks to be realized by the market. Not only that, but Mark is simply providing his research. You are free to make whatever investment decisions that you want to!
Mark, I sincerely appreciate the work you have done to research and pick triples and the work you have done to help educate me and other subscribers on how to become better investors. Please do your best to ignore the negativity and noise that sometimes comes from the PTT community. I agree with some here who have stated that the PTT product has deteriorated a bit since its original creation, but I attribute this more to Mark being pushed and pulled by subscribers rather than him following his intuition and feeling free to do and say exactly what he feels and thinks is the best move.
Cheers Mark! I believe in your picks and your desire to help Main Street investors.

I have made more money in this down market following Mark than I ever have. I have core positions that I hold but I also trade when I feel inclined with the other funds in my account. Big thanks to what I have already learned from Mark. One improvement that I would like to see is the technical side of things with PTT.

I agree with your post too Michael and appreciate what Mark is doing here. I know we're paying for his guidance, but there's pressure on him making the calls. I like the fact I can judge his picks & market calls and then make my own decision on what I do. I've never bought a stock yet, that did exactly as I thought it would afterwards. Hope PTT continues for years to come. Happy Thanksgiving!

Well said, Michael. I've been working my way through Benjamine Graham's "The Intelligent Investor" revised 2015. It's helped me understand and appreciate even more, the value that Mark brings to us each week. No one can predict future prices. There are always surprises. But thourough investigation can better my chances significantly. I don't have time to do that kind of research, and I deeply appreciate that Mark has made his top level research available to the "Little guys" like me.
Happy holidays to all!
