Tattoo policy

Thu, 18 Jan 2018 20:18:31 GMT

I was wondering what the tattoo policy is for slc dept. I have a tattoo on my right arm that ends about an inch above the elbow. So in a short sleeve uniform it would most likely show. Are there any exceptions to this, for example a 3/4 sleeve under armour type under shirt?

Currently the tattoo policy is that no tattoos can be showing. We have several officers that wear sport sleeves to cover any tattoos that show under their shirt sleeves. I know that our admin has been considering changing our tattoo policy to be more in line with the military’s tattoo policy, but as of yet it has not changed.

So from what I’m understanding it’s ok as long as a sleeve is worn to cover the tattoo? And it won’t disqualify me from recruitment by having a tattoo?

Correct. Although if your tattoos are gang tats or offensive, it may be an issue during the background investigation.

Thank you so much for the info. And no worries there. It has no offense or gang relation.

I have tattoos that extend down my forearms can I also wear long sleeves or something of the sort to cover them up or am I disqualified?

You are not automatically disqualified. You would be required to wear long sleeves or an athletic sleeve while on duty.

Good to go...thank you for the clarification.
