are you talking about other L41 narrow tail shapes?
Most of the SimSup line are wide tails, aside from the Bruce Wayne. I have a couple of Kirks shapes and they are killer. I have surfed pintails and narrow more traditional shaped tails as well. The SimSup first off has superior glide to get into a wave. If you are use to surfing mushy smaller waves, these are a game changer. They also are superior in less than ideal conditions in my opinion. Having more volume in the tail make the board a bit more stable in choppy conditions. Once on the wave, these shapes are super fast. They are definitely the fastest boards I've ridden to date. The feel is pretty skatey, but I feel this is a combination of the wider tail and fin setup. Once on the wave, directional changes are very snappy. If tail slides and quick cutbacks arent in your current repertoire, they will be soon after you start surfing a simmons style board. My advice would be to demo one or a similar shape. Go as small as you can and as narrow as you can. I feel these boards are best in the 7'2 - 7'8 range.
Looking towards the ST model
Looking at the ST
I loved my ST! Not sure what your skill level is or what kind of waves you ride, but you can often go smaller with that model than you think, and it sometimes takes a couple of sessions to get used to the shape (ie, don't get spooked if your first session feels tough/strange). Once you lock it in, it's super fun.
Not sure of my skill level. But I know I am able to have fun down the line with a 120 liter at 190 pounds. I ride Va. Waves which are not the biggest waves.
Opinions on the TV dinner and how does she surf?
