A lot of people use the OMM Kamelika race pant (http://www.climbers-shop.com/667154/products/omm-kamleika-race-pant.aspx) but there is also a good argument for going for something a bit tougher like a pair of normal walking overtrousers.
I'd agree with Chris. I've used omm kamelikas for the challenger 3 times now and countless other races, training, safety team etc etc. Had few repairs but still going strong
Alpha SLs. They are pretty pricey but completely bomb proof plus full length side zips make on trail foot care a breeze. http://www.arcteryx.com/Product.aspx?language=EN&model=Alpha-SL-Pant&country=GB&utm_source=googlepla&utm_medium=cse&utm_campaign=GooglePLA_Pants%3EHardshell%2B(Waterproof)%3EHiking%3E&CMPID=PSARC_GGPLA_UK_ENPants%3EHardshell%2B(Waterproof)%3EHiking%3E&gclid=Cj0KEQjwnsPGBRDo4c6RqK-Oqu8BEiQAwNviCaPlIogoxNUQ0Yl0iQ4JzKUkqo6NTcM4v7JGzgBOgOMaAkI-8P8HAQ
Thanks for the help guys, it's good to get some advice from others isn't it?
It is but you cant beat getting the gear and testing it. I bought a load of stuff on recommendation last year and binned a fair bit as it didnt work for me when tested in crap conditions.
I used Montane Atomics on the Challenger this year. I'd had them a while, but they hadn't had much use at all - had mainly just been carried in my bag to meet FRA kit requirements. They kept me dry, but split at the seams around the knees. I've patched them up with tenacious tape, but I reckon I'll use something heavier weight if I do it again.
Yeah, I'm thinking of something a little heavy duty. I've got a pair of OMM kamelika pants, I've tried them out and they're pretty decent but just a bit unsure if they'll perform well during the race. I've got a couple of route recces left to do so I'll make my mind up then.
I'm a big Paramo fan and just bought a pair of Velez Adventure Trousers, I'm aware that Paramo stuff can be a tad warm in certain conditions but I'm thinking of the weather in January and what we are likely to get whilst on the Challenger, I've had a pair of Cascada for a number of years and these have been fantastic in cold or wet conditions, from walking the dog to hill walking has anyone else used Paramo pants and if so how did you find them over the distance and terrain.
Omm worked very well for me!
I had Paramo in drop bag as back up but didn't need them.
