StartIsBack crashes only at the end of the day

And *only* then. Mostly. That's what it does, seemingly every time I want to shut down my computer at the end of the day. When I click the start button (with my mouse) the button freezes and greys out. Clickedeyclickedey-again and it respawns, because yes, it crashed. This seldom happens during the day. It's like it knows I want to shutdown, and I can't because I first have to wait for the respawn, and only then (hopefully, not always!!) I can open the start menu to do what I wanted to do all long. Only takes 10 seconds for a single respawn, but those are 10 seriously irritating seconds, especially if it decides to crash a second, or third, or fouth time. While all I want to do it shut the damn thing off and go home. This problem has been around for a LONG time, so long I can't even remember. Pretty sure it more than 2 years (yes, of course I've reported it before). And I'm really honestly growing sick of it. I don't know if there's a crashlog or something, somewhere, but if there is, dear author, *let me know what you need from me*, instead of silently ignoring this issue. Much appreciated. Lastly, to answer your first question: - Windows 10, latest mainstream - StartIsBack 2.9.16 - Two monitors - Two virtual desktops - No other window management applications

Sorry for the late reply, but it now happens during the day as well. But more importantly, the file you attached is empty.

Not one of the crashes I experience, cause a dumpfile to be created. It's very easy to reproduce. Just make sure you have a similar setup to mine, two monitors and two vdesktops. And just keep clicking the start button on the secondary monitor. Clickediclickediclick. Until it crashes. And it will, I promise.

It's a hang then, and clicking makes Windows kill and restart the explorer. I do not experience a hang in your scenario. Try capturing a hang dump via https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/sysinternals/downloads/procdump C:\>procdump -h explorer.exe explorer.dmp Or Task Manager - Details - explorer.exe - Create dump file. But you have to stop clicking and capture dump when app is not responding.

But seriously, MUUT is a horrible forum thing anyway. Or did you delete my reply? Where the hell did it go? Destroying time I took to reply, even if it's 30 seconds, is absolutely unforgivable. Please use a normal forum in the very near future.

I did not delete the reply. Unfortunately, dump show desktop is responsive and taskbar busy showing tooltip. No sign of StartAllBack stalling things :(

You know how there's a little tooltip saying "Start" that pops up if you hover your mouse over the Start button? That's the tooltip it's busy showing when this happens. The same thing is happening to me. If I move my mouse over Start and click quickly, or back off fast enough, it's fine, but when I let my mouse hover over Start, it freezes when the tooltip would appear, hangs, and then explorer restarts. This is happening on a domain-joined machine with six screens, but not happening on my non-domain-joined machine with three screens. Both on 21H2 (19044.2130). Not sure what is could be! I see another post here saying a freeze happens when the mouse is left pointing at other items like "My Computer" or "Downloads", so maybe it's just a tooltip issue.

I fixed it! For myself, at least. Setting HKCU\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\Advanced "ShowInfoTip" to 0 made it so the Start button no longer shows the "Start" tooltip when hovering over it. All other taskbar tooltips continue working normally, but now StartIsBack/Explorer no longer crashes when hovering over the Start button.
