Call me crazy, but I like the start screen. Not as a start menu replacement, but as a desktop replacement. It functions basically the same: it holds a bunch of icons that launch applications. Unfortunately in Microsoft's misguided attempt to introduce a new UI, they split it horribly from the rest of the experience, making it clunky and disjointed to use.
I was thinking, though. Would it be possible to sort of "replace" the traditional desktop with the start screen? Sort of like how you can put the task bar on the start screen, but instead of closing the start screen when you launch windows, they would just go above the start screen? I guess I would compare it to Active Desktop or something if it needs to be compared. I think it just needs a better way to be integrated into the user experience, and I really like the live tiles being more useful and better looking than plain old desktop icons.
I realize this wouldn't be for everyone. It's just a thought, maybe for a future version. Or maybe it's beyond the scope of this project, or maybe even not possible at all, though I'd imagine it would be considering Stardock sort of does this with ModernMix (just not with the start screen specifically). Either way, I'd just like to throw it out there! Keep up the good work!

I had the idea of app which can do exactly that. No ETA though, sorry, a lot of SIB+ work.

Oh that's cool! Good to know I'm not the only one who thinks that way, at least. Looking forward to it!
