Change of venue

I’m listening to the new episode and it stood out to me that they think they couldn’t move this to a town, with a comparable population, where no one would know about the case. I’m in north west Georgia and I guarantee you there is more people who aren’t familiar with this case than people that are. In fact, I’ve not had a conversation with ONE person who immediately knows what I’m talking when I mention names involved etc. What a shame and what a joke this is. This towns reputation won’t be ruined by this crime, it’ll be ruined by the small town mentality of “watching out for our own”. It’ll be ruined by not caring about true justice and being so damned close minded they can’t see outside of their community. I truly hope that Ryan pays for ONLY what he is responsible for. Unfortunately for that to happen justice will never happen.

Yes, I agree. There are plenty of comparable populations north of Macon/Bibb County. I pulled up Georgia county populations and they definitely exist. Why Valdosta and Tifton were even mentioned on the podcast as options is beyond me - very unrealistic. They moved the hot car/Justin Harris all the way from Cobb County to Glynn County for a fair trial. If they wanted to move it, they would and could move it to a fair location for both sides.

I saw someone mention somewhere, in regards to this, they they even moved Ted Bundys trial from Jacksonville to Miami to ensure a “fair” trial. What worries me was the tone of conversation with the chamber of commerce representative(?) who said (loosely) bad publicity is still publicity and moving it would mean tax dollars be spent somewhere else and why lose that. I understand and respect her position though, but I think fair carriage of justice should be the main priority, imo.

YESSS! That town is too small! I do not feel that he’ll even minutely be given a “fair” trial.

@georgia I don't think Mr. Roberts is aware that a change of venue would require a town/county with similar demographics.

@south I just hope that’s not what most of the people there think. I’m 3 1/2 hours north of Ocilla and hardly anyone is familiar with this case. It’s big to us here on the board because we are invested and keep up with it but if we didn’t it would be a distant memory and we would recall it only when we saw it on the news, as to where it’s big in Ocilla and surrounding areas because that’s where it happened and it’s a small town. I think it’s being viewed like the entire state is talking about this case like the locals there and... they just aren’t.

@southga, I would think a person who has made their career being in the news business would know this basic concept, right?? I was really surprised by his less than impressive interview.

@Dawg I get what you're saying and I agree with you. There are definitely suitable alternatives, especially in the northern part of the state. @beach One would think so, but.....🤷‍♀️

Her initials were CS and she’s from crawfordville. She’s married now (so different last name now) and lives out of state.

I believe the prosecution thinks they have better control of the case in Irwin Co.... if they have additional interests whom they’re covering for, they need the connections.

I agree Waverly. It’s also their playground and their rules. 🙄
