I really enjoyed listening to him. Maybe I'm a bit strange, but I enjoyed observing that he is intelligent and has a strange sense of humor . I took note of how and when he broke down in places and went sideways - and how he tried to control the conversation. It's hard to tell if this is how he is or if he had something in his system. I do believe he has a TBI as well (along with other things like anxiety and ADD, as he said,) so irritability and mood changes would not be out of the question to observe, on top of whatever substance abuse issues are present. Sadly, many people with mental health conditions do self-medicate through non-prescribed substances.
He might even be affected by prescribed things as well.
I'm a little curious myself as to why so much of the conversation itself was played?
KayW- I’m with you, I took away much of the same. In its own way, I felt like this was the most “real” interview of the season and really gave us answers to some of the stuff we’ve speculated about since day one.
I really found it odd that he thought not listening to the podcast means he's innocent. I'm not understanding how that relates? My guess is his ADD is the reason he hasn't listened to the podcast. Payne did a good job! I would like to inquire why he thinks that not listening to the podcast equates to his innocence -- is that the reason he has resisted from listening?
I think it means he’s not poking around to see what people have on him
And what sounded like his constant smacking or chewing food was horrible!! It made his “story” sound even more fake. Who eats during that kind of conversation?
@boardedup - Exactly. I was able to connect some dots about what another friend of mine has told me about Brian and what Catfish said about Brian. I keep thinking about how he said in the police report that she left and he didn't know if she left by herself or whatever. And then he suddenly comes up with this Big Cat thing. He either did it on purpose because he knew the guy was coming up for review or it was an honest thing to say and let leak out. Weird... Anyway, I agree that "this was the most "real" interview of the season" and I am glad he aired it. And I am glad Catfish addressed how ridiculous things get around here with so and so heard this from so and so and so and so....It's awful here. I go out of town for a while and when I come back, someone always has to tell me, "I heard you moved away." I don't even talk to that many people here. It's too much.
@kayw66 One of the few intelligent posts on this board. Agreed. Catfish is intelligent. And very maticulously let things leak out that no one else picked up on. Everyone else is stuck on his stupid comment about the carpet and how would he know about the carpet if he didn’t listen to the podcast. But I also get the impression that very few people on this board understands a person like Catfish or his “way of life” so to speak... So to them, he must be guilty because he’s weird and they don’t understand anything out of the ordinary.
Comments have been made that I am defending Catfish or that I am indeed Catfish in the flesh because I’m going against the general consensus, but I could side myself with him when he said at this moment he has to stop himself from thinking about what happened to her now, and deal with what the accusations brought on about him has done to his life. I’m not saying that there’s not the slightest chance he is guilty but if there is even a 1% chance that he’s innocent, no one can step back and imagi
They keep trying to put a super rational lens on some of the people interviewed and it just doesn't work. I know they have to do their best to keep it level in order to get to the truth, but the people I've met in Crestone are more eccentric than anywhere I've lived. They don't really fit a certain mold. When I was listening, I also felt empathy for him in that if he did not have anything to do with her disappearance, then he really has been through a lot of and he's got some life and brain challenges already. The facebook message thing to me is becoming more clear and not for reasons that I think anyone knows or picked up on.
Do tell. Do tell.
I don't have empathy. I think he was totally disdainful and sarcastic about Kristal. He "said" he was her friend but what I heard was a barely controlled spite towards her.
Catfish is very aware of the way he speaks and uses words to confuse people. He knows damn well what he is doing..He is extremely manipulative, purely narcissistic in every way. He clearly uses riddles to make himself sound eccentric when in reality he is just straight up manipulating and controlling the entire conversation. There is nothing unique and compelling about catfish period. I'm getting bored.
Can't say I'm not bored. When Big Cat rolled in at the end of the episode, my eyes rolled. Payne is dealing with a handful of junkies pointing fingers at each other. We're just caught in the circle, and I'm getting dizzy.
I didn't mean to say "mineshaft" when we were talking about searching. Gotta go get some sunlight now.
Huhh??^^
No one would have disdain towards Catfish for just being eccentric. It was not him being eccentric: he was spiteful towards Kristal (even her 4 y/o daughter), adversarial, narcissistic, and just a total burnt out entitled trustafarian. If he was just a kind space cadet, no one would care.
omg when he started saying that stuff about her daughter!??!! who says stuff like that?
I almost lost it when catfish started what sounded like eating during the interview. The guy didn't even set up a half decent argument. Hes delusional
