The linguists believe that when a word like 'who' is moved,it leaves a trace 't' .They posit that possibility and impossibility of wanna contraction in various contexts proves their point. This situation got more amusing when it was suggested that the presence of a 't' ,though unseen and unuttered, causes the speaker to pause -very short hiatus. Now if you are a psychologist, you know that shrinks would love to trap unwary linguists. Can Brain-Mapping in any way prove or disprove the presence of a linguistic trace in a sentence?
